Doug Hall

Doug Hall

Artist Doug Hall has had a fascination with painting and the Eastern Woodland Native Americans all his life. He started drawing as a young child and enrolled in his first real art class when he was 14.

When Doug was in his mid-twenties he met nationally known Western artist Bob Tommey. Calling him the greatest influence and inspiration for his artistic career, Doug remembers the $5. Friday Night Art Classes in Tommey’s studio. Color mixing and lighting techniques are a couple of the talents he refined after working under Tommey’s tutelage.

Doug has enhanced his knowledge of Native Americans’ life and traditions by traversing the United States by horseback, giving him tremendous insight into life in the 18th century.

Doug turned his love for art into a career in 2000. His work is unique in many respects because he portrays the Native Americans as members of a culture, not as victims or warriors as so many other artists do.

We invite you to enjoy his work in person here at 83 Spring Street Gallery!
